A paradise

In all of history, the notion of paradise was a significant concept. Its significance is in its ability to make the human experience meaningful and enjoyable despite the fact that it is always temporary. Paradise is a place of peace and prosperity. It is a place outside of normal historical time and is therefore immune to disease, crime or death. It is also a place where there are always healthy and youthful beings.

Paradise is described in a variety of ways from the Garden of Eden of the Bible to the lush Pacific Ocean islands of novels and Gauguin's paintings. It is also visible in the contemporary world, with the rise of communes and the increasing interest in outdoor living and gardening. The term “utopian” in reality, conjures images of paradise. While not all utopias are religious, they often incorporate paradisial motifs and are designed to reflect some of the characteristics of paradise under real conditions.

There are a variety of meanings for the word paradise however, the majority of them define a state of absolute beauty or pleasure. It could also be the ideal place for a particular activity or a particular hobby. For instance golfers' paradise or a hummingbird's. In the context of religion it could be a reference to heaven, which is the home of the righteous after death.

Many languages have utilized the word paradise, but it originated in the ancient Iranian language of Avestan. The word is pairidaeza, or “walled enclosure,” from the roots pairi, “around,” and daeza, “wall.” It was later included in the Hebrew and other Aramaic scriptures as paradeisos and was later adapted into Greek which later became paradise.

In the Bible The Bible teaches that the Garden of Eden is paradise. It was a beautiful location where the first couple lived, unaffected of disease and death. After they disobeyed God and sinned, they lost their paradise. In later Bible prophecies, heaven is an ideal place where a happy human race will be forever. The word paradise is also used to refer to a spiritual or psychological state of complete happiness and joy.
