The King Black Dragon, commonly referred to as KBD, is a three-headed dragon located in his lair, accessible only through the deep Wilderness. The King Black Dragon has a combat level of 276, which makes him one of the strongest dragons in 2009Scape. Players should not take this foe lightly, and they should always take an anti-dragon shield as his dragonfire breath is very deadly without protection. The King Black Dragon can also be killed as an alternative for a black dragon Slayer task and boasts the best odds (1/5000) for obtaining the Draconic Visage.

KBD lair is located in deep wilderness adjacent to the lava maze. Quickest methods to travel are either the wilderness obelisk, Lava Titan teleport, Waka Canoe, or Ancient Magics teleport near the wilderness obelisk.

• High combat levels
• Good food (sharks or better) and prayer potions

• Stat boosting potions
• 70 Prayer for Piety
• 99 Attack and Attack cape
• Black Dragon Slayer task and Slayer Helmet
• Dragon Slayer Gloves from FOG (If on Slayer task, about the same as barrows gloves in terms of effectiveness)
• Beast of Burden (Preferably Pack Yack to bank bones/hides)

• The Melee attack is only used when the player is standing in Melee distance and can hit up to 25.
  • The Protect from Melee prayer will negate all damage from this attack.

The dragonfire attack comes in four variants. *Note* It is impossible to negate ALL damage from these attacks. When using an antifire shield and antifire potions the max hit will be 10 for all variants of dragonfire.

• Fiery breath
  • The fiery breath can deal up to 65 damage. Antifire shields, and antifire potions or a combination of these, will (partly) negate the damage from this attack.

• Toxic breath
  • The toxic breath can deal up to 50 damage. Upon a successful hit, there is a chance this attack will inflict poison to the player, starting at 8 damage. Antifire shields, and antifire potions or a combination of these, will (partly) negate the damage from this attack.

• Shocking breath
  • The shocking breath can deal up to 50 damage. Upon a successful hit, there is a chance this attack will drain five levels off of the player's stats (Attack, Strength, or Defense). Antifire shields, and antifire potions or a combination of these, will (partly) negate the damage from this attack.

• Icy breath
  • The icy breath can deal up to 50 damage. Upon a successful hit, there is a chance this attack will freeze the player for 10 ticks (6 seconds) You will have to click on the KBD again to resume attacking or wait for auto-retaliate. Antifire shields, and antifire potions or a combination of these, will (partly) negate the damage from this attack.

KBD has interesting mechanics in the form of unique dragonfire. In addition to his regular dragonfire, the King Black Dragon has three unblockable breath attacks: Poison, Shock, and Freeze. Because the dragonfire aspects are the most dangerous parts when fighting the KBD and are unblockable. It is highly recommended to stay within melee range with protect from melee. Everytime the KBD melees you he is not using his dragonfire, if you stay out of melee range, the KBD will ONLY use dragonfire which cannot be fully blocked like his melee attack.

Creating

With the required items, go to any anvil and use visage on it to create a shield.. KBD boasts the highest chance (1/5000) for the visage, however one can argue that you could kill over two normal black dragons in the same amount of time and make more money from them instead. It really comes down to preference. KBD is mostly never occupied, normal black dragons have some competition to kill them since there is only one viable location.
